Weather rules
How a weather day is decided
We go out in rain and cold in the right clothes. These are the conditions that send us to the indoor base.
Rain
Steady rain is a reason to go out, in rain gear. If children get cold, we shorten the morning and warm up inside.
Wind
Strong wind in the oaks sends us to the indoor base, because of falling limbs. A teacher checks the grove before anyone enters.
Thunder
At the first thunder, everyone goes inside. We wait until half an hour has passed since the last one.
Smoke
On days when the air quality report is unhealthy, the whole morning is at the indoor base with the windows closed.
Heat
In extreme heat we start in the shade, bring water to every activity and come in early. Some days the whole morning is indoors.
Ice and deep cold
When the ground is icy or the cold is too hard on small hands, we take a short walk and spend the rest of the morning indoors.
What to wear
Dressing for each season

Staying in touch
How we tell you about a change
By 7:00 a.m.
If the plan for the morning changes, we send a text before you leave home.
At the gate
If we move to the indoor base after the morning begins, a teacher meets you at the gate on pickup.
In the weather log
The director keeps a weather log, so families can see what a typical month looks like.
