Questions
Questions families ask
What ages and hours do you serve?
We serve children ages 3 and 4. Mornings run from 8:30 to 12:30, and on Tuesday and Thursday long days stay until 3:00. The programs page lists the schedules.
How does a tour work?
Tours are in the morning, while the group is outside. You see the grove, the garden and the indoor base, and you can ask the teachers anything. Children are welcome to come along.
What sets tuition?
The child's age and the schedule you choose. We share the figures on the tour and on our enrollment page; the page on how tuition works explains what is included.
How is a place held, and how does the waitlist work?
A place is held with registration and the first month. If a schedule is full, your family joins the waitlist, and when a place opens we write to families in the order of the list.
Is the school licensed, and what are the adult-to-child numbers?
Yes, Madrone is licensed by DELC, Oregon's Department of Early Learning and Care, and the license is on the safety page. The numbers for each age group are on the same board.
What happens when a child is ill?
A child with a fever, vomiting or a contagious illness stays home until they feel well. If a child is unwell at school, we call the family to pick up.
What about photos of my child?
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
What if it rains, and what should my child wear?
Steady rain is a reason to go out, in rain gear and boots. Strong wind, thunder, heavy smoke and extreme heat or cold move us to the indoor base. The outdoors page lists what to wear in each season.
Do children need to use the toilet on their own?
Children who are learning are welcome. We help, calmly, and we talk with families at the tour about what works for your child.
How do you handle a hard day?
We stay close, name what is happening and give the child time. Then we tell the family at pickup, in plain words.
Do you have another question?
Write to us or ask on the tour.
